Los Angeles Lakers center Pau Gasol had surgery on his left index finger after an injury during practice with Spain's national team. He will be sidelined at least three weeks. The Spanish basketball federation said Tuesday that Gasol damaged a ligament in his non-shooting hand Monday while blocking a shot.

Knicks Declining Sign-&-Trades for Lee?

After years spent playing under Pat Riley and coaching under Phil Jackson, Kurt Rambis is finally getting a chance to run a team. Rambis has been hired as coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves in hopes of transforming a struggling franchise into a contender. Terms were not disclosed, but the team said Monday that they have an agreement.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have worked out final contract details with restricted free agent center Ryan Hollins. The Timberwolves signed the former Dallas center to an offer sheet on Aug. 3. The Mavericks had seven days to match Minnesota's three-year deal worth more than $7 million, but declined.

Nuggets F Kleiza opts to play in Europe (AP)

The Denver Nuggets have lost another player who helped them reach the Western Conference finals. Forward Linas Kleiza, who played four years in Denver, is taking his game to Europe. Nuggets executive Mark Warkentien said Kleiza has chosen to play for Olympiakos, agreeing to a two-year deal worth more than $12 million.

Sixers bring back G Ivey (AP)

The Philadelphia 76ers have re-signed guard Royal Ivey. The team announced the deal on Monday. Terms weren't immediately disclosed. Ivey played for the Sixers last season, but he declined his player option in June. He averaged 3.0 points and 1.1 rebounds in 71 games off the bench. Ivey was originally selected by Atlanta with the 37th overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft.

Linas Kleiza signs deal with Olympiakos

Denver Nuggets forward Linas Kleiza is taking his playing career to Greece after signing a two-year contract worth $12.2 million with Olympiakos on Monday.

Kleiza can opt out of the deal after one season to return to the NBA, according to a source.

The Toronto Raptors, Cleveland Cavaliers and Nuggets all showed interest in Kleiza at various points this summer, but none were offering more than the bi-level exception.

Pistons hire Brian Hill as assistant (AP)

The Detroit Pistons have added a veteran NBA coach to help their rookie on the bench. The Pistons said Monday they have hired Brian Hill to work as an assistant coach on John Kuester's first staff as an NBA head coach. Hill's 36-year career includes leading the Orlando Magic to the 1995 NBA finals and being the Vancouver Grizzlies' first coach.

Hawks Holding out Hope for Joe Smith?
